International students wishing to work in Australia must apply for a special work permit from DIMIA following enrolment. Students who receive a work permit will be permitted to work up to 20 hours a week during a semester and full-time during vacations. Rates of pay may range from AU$8 to AU$15 an hour for casual labour. Income tax (about 25%) is normally deducted from your pay before you receive it.
