To qualify for the Foundation Studies certificate, you must complete and pass four subjects (please see below) . Academic Study Skills and Further Mathematics are compulsory for most students.
Foundation Studies were designed to bring international students to the same level as Australian Year 12 students. To gain entry to this program, you must complete the appropriate academic course in your country or Australia. Please see the entry table for details on academic entry requirements. To gain entry onto the degree program from Foundation Studies, you must pass all subjects with an overall average of 65%. Students with an overall average below 65% are eligible for entry to the last two semesters of the Diploma of Business Administration.

Foundation Studies Subjects
Standard Entry - two semesters
In the first semester, students study five subjects at level 1. In the second semester, students must choose and pass at least four of these subjects at level 2, although you may choose to study up to five subjects.
Accelerated Entry - one semester
This program is available to students who have completed Australian year 12 or its international equivalent.
You must choose and pass at least for subjects, although you may choose to study five subjects.

Students study all of the following subjects in semester one:

Economics 1
Further Mathematics 1
Law 1
Standard Entry Semester 2
Students must study four out of the five following subjects in semester two:

Academic Study Skills 1 & 2
This subject is designed to expand on the way students think, interpret and conceptualise, and enable students to develop their language and communication.
Accounting 1 & 2
This subject provides an overview of accounting concepts, terminology and methodology as a foundation for students intending to continue with a business degree.
Economics 1 & 2
The objective of this course is to provide an overview of the tools of economic analysis, including the use of statistics, tables, graphs, economic jargon and economic theories, identifying both macro and micro economic, positive and normative concepts.
Further Mathematics 1 & 2
The major objective of this course is to provide students with the necessary mathematical knowledge and skills required for study of tertiary Business courses at La Trobe University.
Law 1 & 2
This subject introduces students to general concepts, terminology and methodology used in Law, particularly in the area of Business Law, as a means of preparing students for their studies at first year university or Diploma level.
