SCOPE: Following the scholarship policy and documenting appropriately

This policy applies to all staff receiving applications from students, and for all students seeking a scholarship from ACN.  Scholarships organized through IBT central administration are separate to this Policy.

At core, there is a competitive process for access to ACN Scholarships.  Two types of scholarships are issued:  for academic excellence and for financial need.

POLICY FOR FOUR (4) NON-IBT SCHOLARSHIPS

Standing Principles

  • There is a scholarship panel which will consider and decide the success of applications received, followed by a formal letter by the Managing Director of ACN to the successful applicant(s).  All hard-copy documentation must be filed for future references.
  • ACN will offer four (4) Study Support and Academic Excellence Scholarships for domestic undergraduate students enrolled in all disciplines of the campus. Each are merit based and allocated as the result of a competitive application process.
  • Generally, two scholarships will be awarded for the March intake, with one Study Support and one Academic Excellence award being available. One scholarship of either Academic Excellence or Study Support is available for the July or October semesters and this is to be determined by student demand and the decision of the Managing Director, ACN.
  • Only one (1) semester Scholarship will be awarded to any one applicant for the duration of their career at ACN.  Students will have their tuition fee for the semester in question waived.
  • No student will receive any cash value, nor can they transfer their Scholarship.
  • If a student withdraws from ACN, they forfeit any remaining pro-rata credit balance and the value of the remaining scholarship may be assigned to another student at the sole discretion of the Managing Director of ACN.

Value of Either Scholarship

  • Any Scholarship is valued at $6000 (degree) or $4725 (diploma program) or in future years beyond 2006, the equivalent value of the Prospectus-listed tuition fee.

General Eligibility Criteria for all Undergraduate Scholarships Listed in this Policy

  • You must be an Australian Citizen or hold a permanent Humanitarian visa (Permanent Residents of Australia and NZ citizens are not eligible)
  • You must be enrolled (at the time scholarships are allocated and offered) as an internal student, in an undergraduate / diploma course at La Trobe – ACN Sydney.

In addition:

  • Scholarship recipients are generally expected to be studying full-time. Students wishing to enroll part-time will be considered in different circumstances, for example where disability or full-time work prevent full-time study, or financial difficulty.
  • If you wish to be considered for a part-time scholarship, imformation explaining the circumstances which prevent you from studying full-time must be included in the application form.

RESPONSIBILITY/AUTHORITY

ACN Marketing will control the generic duty of sending out letters to applicants and agents, and being involved with the overall decision. ACN Admissions will ensure the data entry and filing is maintained and updated accordingly, so that notice of the scholarship is evident on the student’s file. Details of when the scholarship will start and end should also be noted.
