Results of Student Evaluation - General 2006
We are pleased to report that the large majority of students are happy with the facilities, services and educational experience provided by ACN.
Issues Response
Concern over number of overseas students at ACN. ACN continues to have 60 to 65% Australian students which:
- is more domestic students than in 2004;
- is the same % proportion as in 2005.
Issues with size of the tables in the lecture rooms. We have responded to this concern by ensuring students have full desks for exams. We will continue to adjust our holdings over the coming two years.
More social events as well as window screens to improve sight lines during lecture presentations. More social events are occurring. Management has supported the launch of a student advisory body where students can organize on behalf of students. Please submit your interest in participating to: ACNSAB@hotmail.com Screens will be installed for Sem 3 2006.
Concerns that the campus does not have a 'traditional ' university atmosphere. ACN does not market itself as a traditional university but rather emphasizes delivery of an Australian Top 10 quality education with practical add-ons such as employment and 'education-to-work' focus, that you do not get so readily at traditional unis.
Critical information, such as notice of a $200 late payment fee in Semester 2 2006, could be forwarded before the start of the semester. Agreed. This has been accommodated in our practice now for 2006-3 semester.
Concerns that the fees are higher than other universities. ACN benchmarks against comparable universities in La Trobe's peer group including UTS, Macquarie, Wollongong and prices are lower through ACN. Please note that ACN trades on advantages such as smaller class sizes, CBD location, and proactive services that traditional universities do not offer.
Insufficient resources If students could be more specific, it would be appreciated. Please consider using our feedback addresses within the secure student intranet at www.auscampus.net
Facilities and timetable choices are not adequate. ACN will research student timetable wishes in 2006-3, however it should be noted that on the request of many students, ACN launched a Saturday class schedule only to find that there was resistance from many other students who wanted Saturdays free.
Education level is high however problems with both computer facilities and administration of accounts. ACN will conduct a further audit of lab requirements for 2006-3 and update the SOE as required. ACN is working to resolve the account issues and in the main, those issues that remain are largely issues left over from pre 2005 when records were limited, in our experience.
Improvement of the computer facilities, as well as a library. Student should be aware that there is a library at ACN and has been promoted through the student bulletin board. There is no text not available at ACN for required readings. Please enquire at Reception. If your desired texts are not available, please advise us, so we can improve.

An audit of all computers physical equipment is conducted 1x a fortnight. Please advise Reception to tell us more about "better working computers"

Increase in the numbers of local students, as well as an improvement in general on-campus security. See comments above re: domestic students. ACN is also seeking to launch a post-graduate course specifically for the domestic cityworker segment which will attract more business professionals. This is planned for 2007.

ACN has best-practice 24 hour security systems.

Provision of a quiet study area on campus. Students can see use classes that are not being used for teaching. See Reception.
Improvement of the air-conditioning system. Works completed, though ACN notes it took longer than expected to resolve issues. We are sorry.
Improvement in reception. Students should be more specific about what additional services they would require at Reception please.
Window screen in lecture rooms to improve sight lines. This will be investigated, thank you.
Provision of wireless internet. This is a project in progress with the Company's IT department.
Student is happy with the layout of ACN including computers. Concern with size of desks in lecture rooms, using hardware & software in computer lab. Student suggests promotion of State Library as a study area. These comments are noted. We will improve promotion of State library, but in the meantime, see:http://www.auscampus.net/current-students/Library.html
Re-program supplementary exams period closer to the close of each semester; Introduce online enrolment; provide IT staff; provide a separate lecturer for tutorials in each subject; Provide Post-Grad courses La Trobe sets the schedule for Supplementary Exams, not ACN. These are only in January, regrettably.

ACN does have an IMT department and audits the equipment each month. An audit of software will be completed in early 2006-3.

ACN is conducting a market needs assessment on a specific post-graduate program for sections of the domestic market and may be in a position to advise more in early 2007.

Reduce student chat during tutorials and lectures This matter has been referred to the Academic Director.
Improve the timetable - include shorter breaks This matter has been referred to the Academic Director.
Provide a pool table ACN will not provide a pool table as there is insufficient space for this. Sorry.
Improve fit-out, increase campus size, provide more lectures and tutorials, increase student vacation period. The matter of increased tutorials has been referred to the Academic Director. More electives will be on offer in 2007.
Improve furniture, provide window shades, provide better chairs/tables The reference to the blinds is noted and ACN will attend to this. ACN is committed to redressing the student concerns about chairs over the next two years by adjusting our holdings of traditional desks.
No Saturday classes, provide chairs with larger writing space, more tables and chairs in the foyer to be able to eat or study All feedback responded to above.
Provide a relaxation area; provide discount gym membership ACN will pursue a gym membership discount for students.
