The ACN Academic Skills Unit offers free weekly classes covering a range of topics to help students get the most from their learning experience. The staff members have experience working with students from non-English speaking backgrounds and understand their special needs and concerns.

The ACN LA Trobe Academic Skills Unit (ASU) offers students help with study skills as well as counselling on general matters. If you have issues that are interfering with your studies, or you have problems studying you can get help from the ASU. The Workshop Program offers workshops and seminars on relevant topics that may help with your study issues. The Counselling service offers individual or small group help with your study. You can also come and talk if you have other personal issues that may be causing problems for you. We have handouts on various aspects of study. These are free and can be downloaded or accessed online.
What to do if you have a problem? Steps to Academic Success
- Decide on the issue and then have a look at the online resources as well as any workshops available in your campus
- If your problem is a study issue, start with your lecturer/tutor. If you still need help, either make an individual booking to see a counsellor in your campus OR make a small group booking with some other students who you know are having the same issues (eg: you are all working on the same assignment and it is causing you problems)
- If your problem is a personal issue, make a booking with the counsellor in your campus. All counselling sessions are CONFIDENTIAL
